Assisted Stretching
What is Assisted Stretching?
Assisted Stretching allows the body to relax while reaching its fullest potential in terms of range of motion. We use a combination of Static and PNF stretching allow the body to relax and achieve its fullest potential in terms of range of motion
STATIC STRETCHING
Static Stretching involves maintaining a joint or muscles extreme range of motion for 10-60 seconds in a hold; in contrast to dynamic stretching, which involves motion. Studies comparing static stretching to ballistic (bouncing) have shown that static stretching is more effective in increasing the joint range of motion.
PNF STRETCHING
PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) techniques were originally used by physical therapists for treating patients with neuro-muscular paralysis. All PNF procedures involve some pattern of alternating contraction and relaxation of agonist and antagonist muscles designed to take advantage of the GTO response. All PNF techniques require a partner or clinician
What will it do for me?
Regular Assisted Stretching offers the following benefits:
-
- Increased range of motion
- Reduced stiffness and soreness
- Increased flexibility
- Prevent injuries
- Improve posture
- Reduce stress
- Improved circulation
What is a session like?
After you fill out your intake form with medical history, your LaVida Stretch Therapist will bring you to a relaxing, private room and discuss your goals and any concerns. Keeping comfortable clothing and socks on, you will be guided through a series of assisted stretches on a hydrolic massage table for either 25 or 50 minutes based on the session length you have chosen.
You will have open communication with your therapist throughout to ask questions and learn about how to continue these stretches at home to maximize your goals.
You are encouraged to stay very hydrated after your treatment to help the body eliminate any toxins released by the treatment.
To prepare for your session...
- Wear comfortable clothes with no buckles or buttons
- You are encouraged to eat lightly as to maximize comfort during your session
Side Effects...
You may have some soreness over the next few days following a stretch as the body heals itself. Once you are in a routine, this will be very minimal.
Who should NOT receive these treatments?
Individuals who currently have a bone, joint, or soft tissue condition that could be made worse by being physically active should not participate in assisted stretching.
How many sessions will I need?
You will feel relief and a greater range of motion after your first session! However muscle memory will tighten your muscles again if you do not maintain your stretching at home or at LaVida.
How often can I receive treatments?
You can do Assisted Stretching as often as you like!
When will I see results and how long will they last?
While increased range of motion is immediate, you must continue to stretch in a healthy, safe way at home to keep this flexibility. Using a package program and coming in at least weekly is what clients benefit most from. Adding Infrared Sauna, or the Lymphatic Drainage suit to a stretch session are also ways to increase results and benefits.
